Dayton Talks is a community platform and an independent local newsroom for the Greater Dayton area. Neighbors post and answer questions under their real names, and a professional newsroom reports on the region with named bylines and published standards.

Why do I have to use my real name?

Real names raise the cost of cruelty and lower the cost of trust. When you can see who is answering your question about a landlord, a school or a contractor, the answer means more. Accounts using obvious pseudonyms are removed.

How do I tell reporting apart from neighbor posts?

Every item carries a label. Newsroom items are marked News, Analysis, Opinion or Correction and always carry a journalist byline. Community items are marked Community and are neighbor opinions, not Dayton Talks reporting.

Is Dayton Talks free to read?

Yes. There is no paywall and no metered limit. The site is funded by reader memberships and clearly labeled local business sponsorships.

How do I send a news tip confidentially?

Use the news tip form or email tips@daytontalks.com. Tell us up front if you need to be off the record, and we will not publish identifying details without agreeing on terms with you first.

How do corrections work?

When we get something wrong we fix it, mark the story as corrected, and log the change publicly on our corrections page with the date and what changed. We do not quietly edit published stories.

How is the community moderated?

Moderators are real people from the Dayton area. Anyone can report a post or comment, and reports go to a queue that is reviewed daily. Harassment, doxxing, spam and unverifiable accusations against named individuals are removed.

Can I get my business listed?

Yes. Local businesses appear in the directory and owners can claim their listing to keep hours, contact details and description accurate. Listings are editorial and are not for sale.
